Here’s a guide peppered with a bit of humor to help you maintain those extensions through the sizzling months.

Dry hair extensions = nightmare city.

*Moisturizing Shampoo & Conditioner:* Imagine treating your extensions to a spa day every time you wash them. Use sulfate-free, moisturizing shampoos and conditioners to keep those locks hydrated. Kerastase makes some BANGIN’ hair masks.

*Deep Conditioning Treatments:* Regular deep conditioning sessions are a must. Consider this your hair extension’s version of a few days at a tropical resort. Ahh, bliss!

*Funny Note:* Think of your hair extensions like houseplants. If you neglect them, they'll wilt and make passive-aggressive remarks to you. Hydrate, baby!

2. Protective Measures Against the Sun

Those extensions aren’t sunbathers, folks!

*Hats and Scarves:* Channel your inner diva with wide-brimmed hats or chic scarves. Not only do they scream fashionista, but they also protect your extensions from UV damage.

SUNSCREEN ~ Most mineral sunscreens are ok because they don’t contain avobenzone (a chemical known to turn extension hair an ugly shade of coral). I know I know, nobody wants a mineral sunscreen because it leaves a white cast on the skin. So, I recommend the Harper Ellis sunscreen, the only sunscreen made with extension girlies in mind.

Remember, a sunburn is not a summer beauty trend! Think about the time you forgot to use sunscreen – let’s not do the same to our hair.

3. Combatting Chlorine & Salt Water

Pool parties and beach escapades are fun but wreak havoc on your hair extensions.

*Pre-Swim Care:* Wet your hair with fresh water, and apply a leave-in conditioner before diving in. Your extensions will absorb less chlorine and salt. Look at you, mastering science and beauty!

*Post-Swim Rinse:* After a dip, rinse your hair immediately with fresh water. Quick, like a ninja, before chlorine and salt have a chance to party on your scalp.

Or, just like don’t get them wet at all. ha!

4. Heat Styling SOS

Your locks don’t need to go through a sauna on top of summer heat.

*Minimize Heat Styling:* Embrace natural waves or enjoy a beachy texture. Let your extensions live their best, stress-free life.

*Heat Protectants:* If you must style, slather your extensions in heat protectant spray like you’re slathering on aloe after a beach day without sunscreen. (We won’t judge; we’ve all been there.)

5. Sleep Routine

Even extensions dream of silk.

*Satin or Silk Pillowcases:* Switch to satin or silk pillowcases. Not only do they feel luxurious, but they also prevent breakage and tangling.
